ETH Stuck at 2,465 for Three Days as Volume Fades to 1.5x

I had 2,465 marked as resistance — it broke within a day, but now it can't hold above it.
On 8/21 it tagged 2,547 and closed at 2,516. The next day it dropped -3.7% to 2,423, the day after that it barely climbed back to 2,463, and today it's back at 2,438. Three straight days of whipsawing around 2,465.
This is where it got stuck in April
The high for the week of April 13, 2026 was 2,464.91 — a level it couldn't clear for more than four months. On 8/21 it closed above it for the first time, then slipped right back under the very next day.
A level you break but can't hold turns back into resistance. That's the test it's going through right now.
Volume has dropped to a third
Relative to the 20-day average: 5.2x → 3.5 → 3.6 → 2.1 → 1.5.
The force behind breakout day has shrunk to less than a third in three days. The buyers who piled in on the way up aren't showing up now.
That said, OBV hasn't broken down. It can't get past the 8/21 high, but neither can price, so there's no divergence between the two. It's not at the stage where you'd say sellers have taken over.
Nothing underneath to catch it
Splitting the last 80 days of volume by price, only 5.4% sits at the current level, while 74% is concentrated in the 1,500–1,900 range. That's because price ripped through this zone in just three days.
With little overhead supply, the upside is light. But if it slips, there's no volume in between to hold it up either.
On top of that, $88M in long liquidations is stacked between 2,340 and 2,420 — 1–4% below the current price. Once a pullback starts, that becomes a magnet pulling price lower. The order book says the same thing: the thickest bid wall is at 2,390 and the thickest ask wall at 2,538, boxing in the current range from both sides.
It is a bit overheated
Price is 19% above the 20-day MA (2,048) and RSI is 76. Whether the three-day stall means momentum is fading or just a breather after rising too fast can't be settled by the numbers alone right now.
Summary
A close above 2,465 puts 2,717 (the January 2024 weekly high) next, with the 2,538 ask wall in between.
A close below 2,356 and I'd call this breakout a failure. That's the floor of the three-day range, and right beneath it sits the liquidation cluster.
