Stripe-owned Privy partners with Ripple to bring embedded wallets to the XRP Ledger

Stripe-owned Privy partners with Ripple to bring embedded wallets to the XRP Ledger

Privy said on Oct. 13 it is partnering with Ripple to bring its wallets to the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

Apps can create XRPL wallets, sign transactions and let users export private keys and seed phrases.

Server-side wallets support AI agents and x402 payments; policy controls and gas sponsorship are planned.

Privy, the wallet infrastructure company owned by payments firm Stripe, said on Oct. 13 it is partnering with Ripple to bring its wallets to the XRP Ledger (XRPL), making its wallet tools available to developers building apps on the network. In a post on its official blog, Privy said companies building apps will be able to offer XRP and Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD without developing wallet infrastructure themselves.

Wallets built into the app, with keys users can take with them

Privy sells embedded wallets, which are created inside a service so users do not need to install a separate wallet app. The company said embedded wallets make it possible for payments companies and fintechs to offer stablecoin payments without requiring users to manage keys themselves. Privy listed five capabilities for developers building on XRPL.

  • Create and manage XRPL wallets programmatically through Privy
  • Sign XRPL transactions using Privy's wallet infrastructure
  • Build with XRP, RLUSD and other digital assets on XRPL
  • Enable x402 payments for agentic commerce
  • Give users ownership and portability with private key and seed phrase export

According to Privy's developer documentation, XRPL wallet addresses use the standard format beginning with "r." XRPL wallets do not exist on the ledger until they receive the base reserve, currently 1 XRP, so an app must fund a wallet before it can submit transactions.

x402 payments for AI agents

Privy said server-side wallets can give AI agents a way to hold and transact with funds, including through x402 payments. x402 is an open standard for making payments within web requests. When a request arrives without payment, the server responds with "402 Payment Required," and the client pays and sends the request again, letting software pay for services without signing up for an account or entering a card.

Privy said it will continue to deepen the integration over time, including policy controls and gas sponsorship, under which a service covers the network fees its users would otherwise pay. The company said these features will give developers more control over how wallets transact without adding complexity for their users.

"Stablecoins are changing how money moves, and XRPL has been building for payments from the start."

Henri Stern, co-founder and CEO of Privy

Markus Infanger, senior vice president of RippleX at Ripple, said "Privy brings proven wallet infrastructure that makes it easier for fintechs and developers to bring XRPL into real products, from payments and stablecoin experiences to emerging forms of agentic commerce." Privy said XRPL has operated for more than 14 years and has grown to more than 8 million funded accounts and $1 trillion in value moved.

Bought by Stripe, Privy keeps adding chains

Stripe announced its acquisition of Privy on June 11, 2025. At the time, Privy said it powered more than 75 million accounts across more than 1,000 developer teams and would continue to operate as an independent product. On Sept. 23, Privy expanded its TRON tools, adding transaction building, signing and broadcasting, balance and transaction webhooks, and controls such as spending limits and recipient allowlists. The XRPL announcement did not include a launch timeline or name any companies using the integration.
