What is a liquidation heatmap?

A liquidation heatmap visualizes where liquidation levels are estimated to be concentrated across prices — the zones traders call magnets. It is built from changes in open interest (the amount of outstanding futures positions) and leverage bands (10x, 25x, 50x, 100x): potential liquidation prices are estimated from those inputs and accumulated by price level. The brighter the yellow, the more estimated liquidation volume is concentrated there.

Price sometimes moves toward heavy estimated liquidation zones — which is why traders nickname them "magnets": forced closures at those levels could add market flow. The heatmap itself is an estimate and does not establish that these zones attract price. On the heatmap, bright bands above the current price are estimated short-liquidation zones (triggered if price rises), and bands below are long-liquidation zones (triggered if price falls).

How to read it

  • Heatmap view: horizontal = time, vertical = price. A bright yellow band that persists at a price level marks a relatively high estimated liquidation concentration. As price moves through a band, the estimated volume there is reduced and the band fades.
  • Liquidation map view: horizontal = price, bars = estimated liquidation volume at each level (colored by leverage band), with cumulative long/short curves.
  • Timeframes (12H-30D): shorter windows emphasize recent estimated levels; longer windows show estimated concentrations over a broader range.
  • Zoom and drag: mouse-wheel zoom and drag to inspect exact prices and dollar amounts via the tooltip.

The heatmap is an estimate built from Binance futures open-interest data — actual liquidation locations and sizes can differ. Cross-checking against the real-time liquidation feed lets you compare the estimate with what is actually being liquidated right now.
